Exporting

Today we had our lecture on exporting. Me and partner were actually the only ones ready to export, This just shows how far behind all the other groups are. But me and my partner are now ready to plan and prepare for our presentation after hand in.

I found the guy who taught us the exporting made it a lot more complicated then what it was, but we learnt lots of technical terms. We had some difficulties with the exporting because the quality of the export was very low, as we cant burn a HD movie. But we had to use a compressor program which solved our problems, but its not as good quality as it look like on final cut pro, but it is good enough, as there is nothing else we can do. Now

LET THE BURNING OF DVD’S BEGIN!!!

Final Promo

Check it out!!! i am so please with it!!! and the editing process is finally over!!!!

Finishing touches

I just looked over the whole film, and I found a section that I felt was missing a graphic so I added a bouncing ball. These last little editing touches really will make a difference to the promo as they will help it flow better and be more interesting to the viewer as this promo as to be the opposite of boring and really entertain the viewer.

Last day of Editing

Wow, we finished the edit yesterday. Can't believe i finally did after three weeks straight of being in that computer room from 9-5pm. I did the credits at the end, including the funny clips which i think help create the mood of our film, as it also shows how much fun we had making it and how much we enjoyed it. I first had trouble accessing how to do the credits, but soon learnt, and was actually quick after playing around with it.

I added some last editing touches, like some more lightening which my partner suggested, and i added another gingerbread graphic at the beginning.

I cant believe we have finished, as it will be weird not editing anymore, as it had taken over my life in a way. But in a good way as i have really enjoyed it so so much.

Today i will double look over the edit carefully incase their is anything else i want to do. As tomorrow i will be burning them on the dvd' s.

Press Release

As i have been editing the promo, my partner kis has done the press release. I really like it, and as its in the shape of a gingerbread man it goes with our theme and humour so well.

i will go to the printers this evening to get them printed on card, to look more professional.

Final stages of editing

Today, i have done so many more graphics, which was the plan. All the editing i done:
-I sorted out a flash frame i noticed, which is hardly recognisable. But makes the edit more sharp.
-I did a trolly with gingerbread man inside, birds flying, extra parrot, a doll, repeated dancers, rain and cloud, sun, finger poking, a cat on a bike, snail coming out of a bum, car, ball bouncing, footprints, umbrellas coming out the afro's, lightening at end spinning. (All these graphics help add to the humour)
-I did more gingerbread men graphics throughout as well to add to the theme we have of the promo.

I did want to take a small chunk out, but it was only 5 seconds so though it was not worth ruining the track.

I will watch over this current edit this evening with a fresher mind, as at the moment been working on it all day and cant think where else i want graphics. You see i want as many graphics i can manage doing. THE MORE THE BETTER!

Edit so far

Watch my edit so far!!!! exciting!

Last days of editing

I showed Geraldine, Olle, and Dennis my current promo edit. They all smiled and laughed watching it, so really happy as this was my aim, and its not even complete yet.

I am currently really pleased with the paint graphics and others as its really 80s, which was also the theme of the promo, with dress and props of the boom box, etc.

I finished the ending with the duplicated dancers, which looks so cool, and also further demonstrates my ability to edit. I feel I have learnt so much In this project and never worked so hard and so many hours on one. So very happy with it so far.

I recorded the footsteps, with my partner kis, so it could be edited in the beginning silent part (black & white).

We added some cartoon clips of gingerbread men being angry, so it creates an extra narrative in the promo. This is just to make it more interesting.

I felt so happy and more confident when Geraldine realized how long all the graphics I had done so far must have taken me. So now I am happy the teachers I realizing how much time and effort I have put into the project.

Kis has started the Press Release, which will also have the theme of a gingerbread man. So we are working well together and done so much already. So nearly hand in now!!!

Thursday 18 March 2010

What still needs to be done

We still need to find a clock work sound effect of the white model (me) walking at the beginning, as at the moment this is silent and it will also go with the black and white theme.

I also need to make the credits at the end, and it would add a nice touch to include the funny take outs. This creates a personality to the film.

I also need to carry on with the end graphics and try and shorten the film slightly.

Editing

Wow, not long now till hand in, so lots of editing to fit it!

I arrived to find lots of graphics had been lost, because my partner kis had played around with them, so i spent the whole morning re-directing them. This did annoy me as every hour is valuable at this stage. Its not her fault as she is not aware of editing, but i guess thats why she should have learnt earlier on as now we cant afford for the edit to get ruined.

Also today i was concentrating on the graphics at the ending. This has taken ages as there is so many graphics having to fall from they sky onto the dancers. See the pictures of it getting more overloaded.

I must admit this editing is starting to get very tedious, so cant wait to finish, as i am putting all my time and effort into the edit, but really pleased with what i have been managing to learn and achieve so far.

Graphics

This afternoon, i have been working with my partner more on the graphics. They are looking really great the more i do, as i am learning more each step i take, so they are looking more professional. Really happy with the results. There are some still shots of me working on them.

Editing

Ok, i started to upgrade our edit, from what we showed in the presentation. I wanted to start to add in some odd clips of close-ups of the dancers but i feel they are not good enough, as many are blurred and not in a good frame. I also do not want to spend my time choosing the ones i think are good if my partner does not like them, so i will wait till she joins me to help me edit. But i did make the beginning black&white, its an idea i thought works well, as only when the music plays is when the promo turns into colours. This helps create the impact. I also added another graphic of lightening when the boom box gets chucked across the floor. See the images of the edit.

Presentations

On Thursday we had our presentation, It went really well because we were one of few who had finished their filming and had a rough edit, so I feel this has given us an advantage to pull out a good finished promo at hand in time, as we have two weeks now to concentrate on the edit loads.

How we will now change our edit of current state, is we will overload the graphics as at the moment it is no where near how many we want, as we need them throughout the film. It would also be nice to have an extra character maybe dancing, like a gingerbread man, and to go with the humor; it could even look up the dolls skirts!! We have already made a crazy promo, so we should add on to this and add in some various close-ups of the dolls going mad, as we really need t overload the edit. We need to go all out. I have a feeling there is going to be some long days in the editing room this week, but it will be worth it in the end.

Our edit for presentation

Today me and my partner worked more on our rough edit. We wanted to include more graphics which the dancers interacted with. This was to show to the tutors what we meant so they have an idea. So we have only done a few, but already they make the promo look so more funny and add humour straight away. But we have lots more to do. So lots of hours to be done in the editing room.

Monday 8 March 2010

Our 3rd rough edit

Wow we managed to put a huge amount of graphics on today, as the basis of our production design. We did an idea of when the music plays paint spurts out of the boom box, and splats onto the screen and studio walls, etc. It creates a nice frame throughout the film. Have a look.

Our 2nd Rough edit

This morning i have just completed our second rough edit with the help of Kis. We managed to get our ideas together and delete scenes we thought were not so strong and also speeded up parts we thought dragged on a bit, etc. So this is the second edit, and its only just over 2 minutes. Also our music is in sync with the video so really pleased with how far we have come already. All we need to do now is delete a little bit more and also add in the graphics.

De La Soul - Me Myself and I - Original video (1989)

When Geraldine and Dennis, watched our rough promo, they suggested another song we could consider using as its very 80s and would go with our film (De la soul, me myself and i) This is the film attached. But another song from this band is (Magic Number) as its also a very fun song which would work well). But personally i feel we should still use our original one as we actually danced to the beat of that one and therefore i cant see how we could change it. Also i feel a more up to date song would be more modern and work best.

Inspiration for hair and make-up

When we had our tutorial with Kim, she touched up on how our hair and make-up which our designer 'Emma Bell' often uses is very similar to Galliano's make-up and also recently Louis Vuitton's Afro's. So already our promo film is very high fashion and looks amazing and professional.

Mid Evaluation

Our promo is a promotional tool for our designer ‘Emma Bell’. So this means the promo is there to sell and promote the clothes. So we chose a fun film as this creates a lifestyle the buyer may want to buy into.

When it now comes to editing our film, because the footage is very basic, as well s the production design, so the audience could get bored and yes even for 2 minutes, so we will use graphics the engage with them more. These graphics will be time consuming, but it’s a cheap way to make our promo look more professional. Editing our film is so important as its what overall the viewer/audience will see, so through clever editing a film can be better. We are the first students to use graphics, so I feel adventurous and creative, also I am stepping outside my comfort zone which surprisingly feels good.

Sound will make or break our promo, so we may also use sounds effects as well as the music soundtrack.

In the end we chose not to use the elephant necklace, which was planned as for health a safety it was whacking the other dancer (me) and also strangling the dancer because of the weight of it on the chain.

Although we never planned to have the shadows of the dancers, I feel they actually work well. And also shadows create an illusion of more.

I feel when it comes to the edit I will need to be more critical of our work as this will give us a better grade.

Because I already finished the rough edit it just one whole day, I feel we have enough time to really make it to a high standard.

New Story Board

I made a new story board with the still images from our shoot. It shows the narrative i will follow when it comes to editing the promo. It will help guide me and keep me on track. Also it will help the tutors to have an understanding more of what we want to achieve.

Editing

I will be editing our promo film again today. I have enjoyed it but i must admit it is hard work and time consuming but i will it will be all worth it in the end when the finished product it all complete. As you can see below is the rough edit i completed in i feel was a short amount of time. I watched a film last night and the interview with the director of 'Love Actually' and he said a phrase "delete scenes that don't fir the rhythm." So this is what we are going to have to do as our promo is too long at present so we will have to carefully delete scenes or clips we feel are not strong enough and putting too much value to our narrative for example. Attached is a photo of me editing.

Rough edit of our promo

I was all day editing our promo today. I did a rough edit which had actually turned out quite good. I have edited the different camera angles which we used and also speeded up the ending etc. I also learnt how to zoom in and crop sections of our footage. So really pleased with just a days work. So excited with what i have managed to do in a day, so what i will be able to do in a couple of weeks. I will give it a rest over the weekend and start fresh with a fresh mind for editing on Monday.

Getting our footage

OMG i have sat all day in the computer room converting our video files into mov. files. I did not realise it took so long, but i guess thats why we filmed early so we can prepare ourselves for these long editing. Just wish it would be quicker. Oh well will just have to wait. I think its because we shot lots of footage and with all three cameras so lots to import.

our make up artist

This is a video of my make up being done from our make-up artist Maria. It was make-up and face paint to make it more vibrant. She was amazing!

Last lot of photos from shooting

Pics from the shooting

These are the still shots from the actual filming of our promo in the studio. Amazing photos and now cant wait to actually see the video and start editing!

Shooting our film

Wow we managed to shoot our film in one day in the studio. It was hard work and we also had some difficulties but we managed in the end. It was so nice to see all our ideas and hard work and creations come to life and see the finished outcome on what we had in our minds on what we wanted to film.

Our make-up artist turned up and she was amazing. I am so pleased I knew her and she was able to help out as the make-up really made a difference of the costumes and made our promo look so much more professional. She left though as soon as she had finished the make-up, I feel we would have benefited if she had stayed longer, as we took so long to finish filming the make-up was started to ware off. Also because we had to drink, around the mouth and lips was the worst. But we made sure to do the close ups first because of this reason.

I feel because we were never able to find a second dancer and I had to fill in, I was not so much able to have my input in what the camera angles looked like, etc. But I was still helping to direct it as Kis had lots to do.

When James came in to help our styling he was great help and really let our imaginations open up and not hold back. I learnt to be more adventurous and trust myself with being completely out their with the styling as after all that what our designer Emma Bell is all about.

I have included some setting up and ‘in the process’ photos. Also some stills a photographer took while we were shooting the film. You can see how amazing the make up and costumes were, also the wigs just finish it off. I also feel how both dancers were the same heights made this loads better, and really helped.

I am pleased with the outcome of the day, and we will show raw footage to Dennis today. I am pleased. But did not think how long it would take to film. I thought we would only do a couple of takes since we had all three cameras at different angles running at the same time. But took much longer, as sometime either dancer would make a mistake. Also overcoming the lighting was difficult as we had problems first even getting hold of lighting, and then when we had it, it was not bright enough so we had to experiment and we managed to get it bright enough. We had shadows which was not the idea and plan in the beginning, but I liked it as the huge Afro shadows behind us helped create the humor more.
